100th post Giveaway!!

Woohoo!!
Yep! I have now posted 100 blog entries!
AND................ I am working on my newest pattern!
And you, my dear friends, get to celebrate with me!
Oh, and there I go again with my wild overuse of exclamation points!!!!!

This is the prototype for my newest pattern. This is "Yaya's Apron".
I LOVE THIS APRON!
Since there was no pattern for this apron, I started playing around. This one was my prototype.

I fell in love with this style years ago when I found an apron that my mother-in-law had been keeping. This apron had been belonged to her mother, hand sewn from a flower sack during the depression. I have worn this apron for years, but alas, it is so worn and thin that I can no longer mend it. Hence the need for me to make one for myself. And since I loved this style so much, I figured that other woman may as well. I made my prototype from a Michael Miller fabric in my stash called "Pod Posey". Sadly I do not have enough left to make another one.
This apron uses nearly every scrap from 1 yard of fabric.

(Sorry for the ugly rear view of my adjustable dress form. I think I need to make a cool cover for it.)
I love this apron because it goes over the head, and does not need to be tied on to stay put.

It offers great coverage yet fits many body types.
Doesn't this one make you want to bake cupcakes?

You do know that I love cherries, right?

Easy vintage style, but with good coverage to protect your pretty clothes.

So........do you like it?

I will be asking for testers soon, as I hope to have this pattern available
for sale as quickly as possible.

But for now, and to celebrate my 100th post, I am offering a "Yaya's Apron" as a giveway!

Yes! Just in time for Holiday baking, one of you will receive a Yaya's Apron in the fabric of my choice, as my gift.

How can you enter, you ask?

You can earn 1 entry for each of these:

 1. Leave a comment, telling me of your favorite Thanksgiving or Christmas food tradition.

2. Tell me that you are a follower, or become one now.

3. Blog about this post and post your link here in the comment section.

The winner will be announced Saturday, November 21st
( in honor of my baby brother Christian's 40th birthday!!!!!)

Happy Entering! And I will get back to work on this new pattern!!!!

Love the apron! I cannot wait for the pattern (or maybe even to be a tester) because I am in desperate need of a new apron.

My Fave Christmas food tradition is that our family does an all out Mexican feast. It takes two days to prepare everything, but it fantastic food. We have enchiladas, tacos, burritos. beans, rice, salsa, and flan....of course all is made from scratch. Lots of food and fun for a wonderful time of year.

I absolutely love this apron. When I saw it, I had to show it to my dd who uses aprons all the time. This is one that I would definitely use. BTW, I am definitely a follower!!

My favorite food tradition is making apple pie for our family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. It's my son's absolute favorite pie and I so enjoy making it for him. There are many other faves, but this one tops the list!

Colleen said...

My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is making my mother's yeast rolls. As kids, we had to make the little balls for the three-bump kind of rolls. Too early in the morning to remember what that shape is called. Now, I have my girls do it. They actually hate it, but it makes for good picture-taking.

I don't have a blog, but I'm entering anyway because I love your apron!

I've been a follower for a long time! (Well, at least for 100 posts - however long that is!):-)

What a beautiful apron - I love the cut and the fabric. And, how neat that you are modeling it after an apron passed down through your family! I would love to win this. Thank you so much for your generous giveaway!

My favorite Thanksgiving food is Candied Yams. My Grandmother would make these every Thanksgiving (and Christmas too) and the cooked yams, apples, nuts, brown sugar...were DELICIOUS! Part veggie/part dessert! Happy memories of large family Thanksgivings as we all hung out in the kitchen with some cooking, some playing cards and always lots of laughing!

Thanks again! Meredith (merlawrence@aol.com)

I LOVE this apron! I would be interested in testing the pattern too if you're looking for people!

My Thanksgiving tradition is kind of weird-- my grandmother (mothers mother) was an absolutely terrible cook. Every year she made stuffing out of wonderbread and onions and celery-- thats it! She also always put canned sauerkraut on the table-- even tho not a soul ever ate it and she couldnt say why it was necessary!

She passed away when my mother was only in her 30's. Every year, in her honor, my mother makes the disgusting stuffing (although no one ever eats it because it has no taste at all!), and puts a can of sauerkraut on the table :) no one ever eats that either :)

Great apron, Sivje!!!

My fav about the holidays iare the gingerbread pancakes we have for breakfast on Christmas morning!!! I add a bit of cloves and cinnamon to the maple syrup and YUM!!!! I serve them with savory chicken sausage patties.

Here's my blog post about your apron and contest. http://mac-aroni-n-cheese.blogspot.com/2009/11/aldous-is-walking-and-talking.html

*I hope I can be a tester, too* I'll totally blog all about it, too!!!

What a nice apron and nicer sentiment behind it. I lost my mother coming up on 9 yrs ago right after Thanksgiving and any and all reminders of her are always precious.

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. There's no crazy mall shopping or tons of candy. It's just a joyous occasion for family to come together and celebrate. I've been doing Thanksgiving dinner for MANY years now (almost as many as being married, so in the teens anyway) and I like to make as much as I can from scratch. From pumpkin muffins made from our jack o lanters to cranberry sauce made the day before on the stove.

(by the way, I'm turning 40 in 2010 and my oldest son's name is Christian <3 that name!)

Look how many comments! It is a gorgeous pattern- I am curious to see how it works with ahem generous uptopsies because with the ones that tie at the top you can adjust them but it would be nice to have one that does not slip down! Hmm those dark aprons give me the idea to make one of out dark fabric to hide the drips when I lick the chocolate cake batter out of the bowl (aye now the secret it out lol)

Oh yes almost forgot favorite holiday tradition is celebrating my wedding which was on Christmas eve and this year will be 12 years-we have Chinese food every year!

Great job this pattern will do well!!

I'm a follower now. Found you from macaroni-n-cheese's post.

Love the apron! My favorite food tradition has to be the homemade tamales we make every year with the family. When I was younger, the women would all gather around my aunt's kitchen and we'd have an assembly line to put them together. We usually made enough for everyone to have 5 dozen. They were so yummy and good thing too, b/c your hands would smell like tamales for the next week! Now, everyone gets in on putting them together, both men, women, and children. It feels good to be able to pass along Thanksgiving traditions!

My favorite Christmas tradition is with my dad's side of the family. On Christmas Eve we have huge mexican food feast. Tamales, burritos, rice, you name it and we've got it. Then on Christmas Day we do the more traditional Christmas lunch.

That is really a beautiful apron! I am following your blog. Our favorite Christmas tradition is on christmas eve we exchange ornament gifts. This started with getting married around christmas and the tree was the centerpiece at the wedding, all the decorations were given to us as gifts.

So cute! I love this style of apron. I love my Emmaline aprons, but the halter straps pull on my neck...this style looks so comfy! I would LOVE to be a tester, esp if it's soon! I've been wanting to make an apron like this for my mom for Christmas, but haven't got around to drafting a pattern.

My favorite food tradition for the holidays is my mother always made pancakes with peaches and whipped cream for christmas breakfast. My mother is gone, but I always remember her with heavy peach syrup on my pancakes after opening presents.

I'd like to be a tester too!

We always make chestnut stuffing (when we can get the chestnuts). We boil the chestnuts (after cutting an "X" in the shell), then peel them, puree with butter (plenty of butter!), salt and pepper. Then roast in the oven till golden on top. A great dish served with the turkey!

Milee said...

How cute are these! I just linked to this from Sewing Mama's, and I love your blog! The aprons are great. They're actually just what I need! I'd love to test the pattern for you, if you still need people.

julia said...

I love your aprons. I made some for my daughters and nieces a couple of years ago for Christmas. One of my daughters has requested another one. She would like this!

NatureMama said...

Great aprons! I like the length of them.

My favorite Christmas Tradition is our "non-traditional" Christmas Eve. We used to make homemade fried baby shrimp (not healthy, but YUM), fried rice and watch a movie.

On that night, each of us 4 siblings would pick out a single gift to open, thus alleviating both the burning desire to open and give. The chosen gift came from the pile of sibling gifts...not from our parents.

Then...Christmas morning, the rest of the gifts would be shared...as well as stockings.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Favorite Thanskgiving food: cranberry sherbert. Made every year from fresh cranberries and ginger ale. It doesn't seem like Thanksgiving without it.

Beautiful apron!

My favorite food tradition is Christmas cookies! I usually start before Thanksgiving and make 15-20 different kinds. Now the kids help me (so it takes a little longer). We give them as gifts and then on Christmas morning we take tins of cookies around to all the neighbors. My children love being able to say Merry Christmas to everyone.

Fabulous pattern, Sivje. I may become a tester if time allows. I think you have a real winner here!

My mom always made a wonderful cauliflower gratin and now the task has been passed on to me. Like most food traditions, mine is never quite as good as hers.

My personal tradition is to make a chess pie for desert on Thanksgiving. Until we moved out of our large home near the kids, each year Christmas eve was a formal dinner, prime rib, all the fixings, and dressing up. It was great fun and DD has taken up that tradition in her lovely home.

Unknown said...

My favorite Christmas traditions are of course English ones - Christmas pudding and mince pies especially! Although I have one thing I long for from our days in Belgium... a deboned turkey with farce aux truffes - a meat stuffing with truffles in it. And fresh mistletoe from the farmers' market (which was a block away from us in Waterloo, Belgium, and went on all year round) to give kisses under. And foie gras with aspic au porto for New Year's... oh now you've got me started on one of my "I want to go back to Europe" days!

Hello!, congrats for your 100th posts, lol, well I have to say we eat tamales for christmas, it's a bit difficult to explain, but they are made with corn, vegetables and meat (any kind), you can eat that anytime of the year, but it gets popular when christmas is aroun, we have also queque de navidad (christmas cake), it's so yummy, you made that with raisings, dehidrated fruit and put it in some liquour for about a month, hmmmmmmm, you'll need to try by yourself!, I don't have enough words to say it's scrumptions!, oh! I don't have a specific story but a general one as I have to wear aprons or big shirts when I bake as I have a horrible habit of reaching in the oven and pulling things out forgetting hot pads so I've trained myself to have an apron on to grab the stuff or have towels always on the stove top. I can't tell you the number of times I've had burnt finger tips serving holiday meals (which is the only time I cook much at all anymore).

Sivje, I just adore this apron pattern. I would love to be considered to do a tester when the time comes. I have a rather sick obsession with aprons. I love the coverage of this one, I am such a messy baker.

Anywho, Christmas is probably my favorite time of the year. We have a ton of great traditions I look forward to and it's hard to pick just one, so you are stuck reading about my TWO favorite's. The first is I make perogi for the whole family from scratch. They are a Polish dumpling and in my family, they are stuffed with kraut or potato. They take me a full two days to make, but they are my family's favorite treat. My other favorite is another Polish tradition. (Did I mention my family is all Polish on my Mom's side?) We break a thin, wafer-like break called oplatek (pronounced o-plot-key) into several large pieces. Each person takes a piece for themselves. Then we take turns breaking small pieces off of each other's oplatek and exchanging kisses, hugs, and Christmas wishes. This was always a great test for boyfriends visiting for Christmas dinner!

You will post some of your favorite traditions in the future right?!? I love reading about these too. In fact, I might just borrow this idea to post on my blog!
