Time for a Giveaway!

So, I am REALLY late for my "Blogiversary", which was in February.
And I am also REALLY late for my "100 followers" celebration.
And I am almost at 150 followers now!!

So, that means I owe you all a GIVEAWAY!!!!

Ok, I am still working on finishing up the final "Yaya's Apron" details.

And I am running slower than I want to be.

(Actually, I am eating, sleeping and breathing apron stuff right now!
(another example of my poor photography skills, but still a super cute apron back view.)

We are working on the photography of the final pattern
and I have the help my dear friend Heather who is a professional photographer.

Heather DID NOT TAKE ANY OF THESE PICTURES!

So, she takes really good pictures, unlike me!!
(Ahnalin is not part of the giveaway,
but I just had to show you how cute she is in her gear for bike riding.)

But since you have all been so patient, and encouraging, and since I love to read your comments so much,  I am putting up the giveaway information now.

I will not give you a date yet of when this giveaway will close, but it will coincide with the completion of the Yaya's Apron pattern.

So, you have just a few days for this one.
(Yep, another random shot. This one is of a sign Ahnalin made for a puppet show
she did over Spring Break and Grandma and Grandpa's house.)

So, let me think......
(Let's hear it for more random photos!
This one is of my mom and the girls last summer walking in the Creek at Lithia Park
in Ashland.)

Ok, here we go. Since this pattern is named in honor of my husband's grandmother, I want to hear what is your favorite "gift" you have received from a grandparent or another person who invested time and love into your life. By gift, I mean wisdom, a skill lovingly taught, a story shared, or even a physical gift like a locket or book or some other special item.

What am I giving away? Well, the winner will receive the Yaya's Apron E-Book in PDF on the day it goes on sale. In addition, I will custom make a Yaya's Apron for you in your choice of size.

Please make sure that you include your email address so I can reach you.

Additional chances to win:

Become a follower or tell me if you are one already.

Become a fan of "Sivjegoose Patterns and Pretties" on Facebook, or tell me if you are already a fan.

Blog about this giveaway and leave the link in your comment.

Tweet about this giveaway and send me the link.

Follow me on Twitter. The link is on my sidebar near the top.

And post a separate entry for each chance you take!

Thank you all and good luck!!!

Happy Saturday.

And I am going to get back to work to get this pattern done!

Love to you all!!!!

Sivje

Yay, a giveaway! My grandmother lived an hour away and couldn't come to school family days, so a lady in my church "adopted" me. She came to all my special days and even sat in at my wedding, because my real grandmother was sick with Alzheimer's. She's invested time and love in me and was the greatest gift of all!

There are a lot of people that have impacted my life over the years. I want to talk about my grandpa(who has gone on to heaven). He was the best grandpa girl could ever have. He would take me on bike rides, trips to the park, church camp in PA. Sunday dinners with he and grandma were always a treat. Helping him in the garden. Eating my first turnip freshly picked! :) He gave me the gift of time spent with him. I miss him and wish I could share with him how much all the time spent with him meant to me, but sometimes you don't realize how much it means to you until that person is gone. :( I have some wonderful childhood memories thanks to my grandpa!!! :)

I guess I would have to thank my MIL, if I could, for giving me my husband. He has been my rock, and taken care of me when I had major surgery like no one ever thought he could do. We have been married for 38 years, and we can practically finish each others sentences. I am so blessed.

I never got on well with my maternal grandmother, even though she lived with us for a while when I was in my pre-teens. Perhaps it was BECAUSE she lived with us for a while! She was from the East End of London and brooked no nonsense, and had absolutely no interest in books or ideas, so we had nothing to talk about.

She did, however, teach me to knit, and for that I'm eternally grateful. Having recently taken up knitting again after a gap of 20 years, I appear to be a fast knitter compared to most, thanks to the technique she taught. So I am grateful for that!

I absolutely love this apron and would love to win the pattern as well as one made by you!!

We used to live next to my grandparents and share a mailbox and driveway. I think the thing that I loved the most that my grandmother did for me was make me a pair of mittens. I used to get the mail and take it over to their house to sort it and never wore gloves or mittens in the winter. She made me a pair because she didn't want my hand to get cold! Gotta love her!! She is in heaven now, but was such a wonderful grandmother.

I just LOVE to read and see all of your sewing project. I want to be YOU when I grow up! LOL!!

Love you, sister!!

Unfortunately, I did not really get to know my grandparents, but I have had several older people in my life who served in that roll. Grandma Betty and Grandpa Ed were a couple who lived in our small town. They basically adopted us. I was fairly young when Grandpa Ed passed away - I think maybe 8. He was so wonderful, happy and full of love. Currently, my husband's great uncle, a wonderful Christian man who is 86, is teaching me to garden. The most influential, however, are my Aunt Gladys and Uncle Flint who taught me about God's unconditional love.

The best gift I received from my (adoptive) parents was the gift of unconditional love. They always loved and supported me no matter what. I could do no wrong, was the smartest, prettiest, etc.... while that was a bit much, it was always gratifying to know I could go home and tell them anything and they'd be on my side. A wonderful comfort when the world is sometimes a scary place.

I think the best thing my grandparents gave me was their time and unconditional love. My granddad would take me to ride the escalator at the store while my mom & grandmother shopped. Yes, time and good memories those are my favorite gifts from my grandparents.

This is so easy. My grandmother gave me passion, a passion. It is my passion for sewing, for fabric, and for all things textile. I have the fondest memories of spending time with her, creating dresses out of whatever I picked out of her stash, standing next to her treadle and watching her make magic. To see her take a flat piece of fabric and turn it into something that was absolutely darling was a joy and a gift I will never forget.

I have an apron from the 60's that my great grandmother made for me. I loved to go to her house and help her clean. I "needed" (much like Ahnalin's "needs", I'm sure) an apron like her's to clean and one day she surprised me with one. I LOVED IT! It would hang in the kitchen closet with her aprons for when I came visit. I have so many fond memories of this great grandmother, she could feed the squirels out of her hand, had the most beautiful flower gardens, complete with shells (they were really snails, but I didn't know any better), orange circus peanuts a wonderful soft sweet candy. But the best was the chicken that laid the gumballs, well, next to the apron of course. Thanks for the walk down memory lane....

Ahnalin looks darling in her protective gear! Good for her for wearing it!

Congrats on the aprons, the pics look wonderful!

What a wonderful giveaway! I would love to take part in it. I have so many wonderful memories of my grandparents and great grandma. They have given me so many things but one that particularily stands out are the diaries that my Grandpa wrote in. For over 40 years he wrote in a diary everyday (yes, EVERY DAY!!!) he used the 5 year diaries so it is neat to be able to look across the years and get a picture of his life. Some days it was just the weather. Other days it was the price of milk or the news of the neighborhood. I love looking up the days that I was born, someone's birthday, etc. It is such a gift to have all these memories written down in his hand, especially as he is gone now. Thank you for this wonderful chance to share this memory of him with you and to be a part of this drawing! Meredith (merlawrence@aol.com)

My grandmother's gift to me was just being an inspiration for the type of person everyone on this earth should strive to be. She never had a bad word to say against anyone. If someone wronged her she would say that just wasn't very nice and then they were forgiven. My sister and I called her Mammaw and there will never be another person like her for me. She passed away in January after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gerhigs disease) and I still miss her everyday but feel my life was oh so blessed just by having her in it.

The favorite gift from a grandparent that comes to mind is the baby quilt hubby's g'ma made for us 25 years ago. Due to fertility struggles we never conceived so we never received the quilt. Even before we adopted our son Grandma considered him her grandson. A couple of years before her death she said the quilt was to be given to him whenever he and his wife have their first child. My mother-in-law gave me the quilt a few months ago.

My grandmother was amazing. When she passed 7 years ago, I realized she was the strongest woman I ever knew. She was struck with MS before my mother was even born yet you never heard her complain about her paralysis. She was a powerhouse that could do so much (eg. braid my mother's hair TIGHTLY when she was little, get dressed--bra???, and cook and clean) and that was with her dominant side paralyzed! She gave me the gift of strength. I miss my "Gram".

give away....
My grandma just turned 102 years old and still lives on her own! She's always so sweet and caring and has always made me feel special without really "giving" anything. She is always happy to see me and my family as she is with all her grandkids. She remembers our birthdays and always sends cards. She has 10 kids, 28 grandkids and many great grandkids. She was a great supporter of our adoption with Zoe and is tickled pink whenever she sees her!

While growing up her and grandpa used to send us all $2 Christmas and $1 for our birthday. We looked forward to that year after year and couldn't wait,

I love this being able to write about her and think of her!

thanks for the idea!!! LOL

I didn't get to see my grandmother too often since she lived in Oregon and I lived in WV but I always remember her beautiful flower which has inspired my love for them.

I Oregon it was a big deal to graduate from 8th grade heading to High School so each of us grandchildren received a special gift. The boys got watches and us girls received a special Black Hills Gold ring. I received the ring a couple of years before 8th grade because she was afraid she would be around then (but she was!!). I That was 30 years ago and I wear it every day and think of her always!!

My Grandmother was an amazing ceramist. She and my Grandfather even owned a ceramic mold business until he passed away. When I was a young girl I had leukemia and had to have surgery. To cheer me up my grandmother made me from scratch the most beautiful porcelain doll. I remember having her in the hospital with me and some of the nurses thinking it was a real baby…she is that life like. I should do a blog post about her and post her pictures. She is currently working part time as my baby model for all the little things I am making for the little girl I am expecting.

P.S. Yaya is a great pattern. You should be super proud of yourself.

My grandmother gave me a small amount of money at her death that was enough for me to open the business that has been a primary source of income for my family for the last 5 years. The money came with the mandate to "do good with it" and I am certain she smiles down today knowing that her granddaughter and great-grandchildren are cared for (still) by her love.

Joy said...

I don't have a lot of memories from my grandmother as she was older when I was born, and I think was just tired of kids by the time I came along. I guess after 7 kids and countless grandkids, the last grandchild is a little tiring!

But she did instill her love of learning in me and also her love of crafting. She was always thrilled that I did well in school and would be estatic that I finished college and also got a MBA.

I have come now to appreciate all the knitting and sewing she did for everyone. I even have some pillowcases she embroidered probably 50 years ago that are waiting to be made into a dress for my daughter that she never got to meet. My daughter also has her last name Britt as her middle name.

My maternal grandmother moved in with us and lived with us from when I was five. She was very creative and taught me how to crochet. I've been able to teach my youngest DD. And that's pretty cool.

My paternal grandmother made very "colorful" quilts and let me help pick fabrics to go together. She always had a quilt frame set up in her house and I practiced my hand-quilting on her quilts. And she didn't take it out!

Both those are pretty awesome gifts in teaching me something and in giving me a wonderful memory.

My grandmother always has some little project for me to work on - prestamped embrodery, a little sewing project. When I went to college my mom sent me with her singer machine from 1956. It was wonderful. I sewed away many a stressful day on it. I appreciate that these ladies shared with me a pastime that was so enjoyable to them and is now so enjoyable to me

oh, I have a great memory to share. My best gift came in the form of a book. It wasn't the book that was the gift really, but the reason behind it and the words spoken when given it. My father who has been mostly out of my life gave me a book for a gift, while he gave all my brother and sisters toys and candies. He told me I got a book because he knew I was smart and could go some where and be something in life. It was a true confidence boost especially since my teachers wanted to put me in special education. From then on I've pulled up my grades and try to do my best at everything. I will always be grateful to my father for being confident in me when no one else was.

I adored my mom, and she gave me one of the most important gifts I have had in my life which was her apology. She was a very passionate person, with a horrific temper, which she took out on us when we were young through yelling and screaming and behaving horribly when she was angry. But in equal measure with her temper, was her love. One way she showed this to me was by apologizing after each temper tantrum. It was short, sweet and simple "sorry-sorry Lulu." But over the years it built to become one of the most important things in my life. She had no idea the weight of what she was doing, but every time she did it, it built up into a separation for me, from her anger, and allowed me to not inherit it, and carry it forward to the next generation.

I love you, Sivje, can I have an apron now? ;)

LOVE this apron Sivje!! My grandma loved to sew and because they didn't have much money at times, she was very resourceful of not wasting anything or making new beautiful things out of something that was no longer needed. She taught my mom to sew and my mom taught me. My grandma taught me how to crochet and I love those memories of her. When we were little, she made us lots of doll clothes and a crocheted blanket to carry the dolls around in. We played and played with them and I can remember it. But, my mom saved them for me and gave them to me recently. My grandma is gone now but I wish she could see those same doll clothes being used by my daughter. Now that I'm older and love to sew as well, I can see the love in every stitch.

I LOVE the apron, Sivje!! It's beautiful, feminine, and practical. I would love to make them for my daughters, who love to cook and who would love this apron!

And yes, I'm a fan on FB and a follower of your blog.

My grandmother taught me kindness and showed me unconditional love. She was a wonderful, talented woman. I have a very dear older cousin named Penny. She had a camel hair winter coat with a fur collar and wore this black mohair knit hat that I admired very much. As a little girl, I wanted to emulate this wonderful older cousin who is, to this day, more like a dear sister. My grandmother, bless her heart, found me a camel hair coat with a fur collar and made me a hat to match my cousin's! Did I ever feel chic and special!! I'll never forget it.

My grandmother passed along her love of cooking and handwork to me. She, along with her mother and sisters all were very talented knitters, crocheters and lace-makers from the "old country". My favorite craft is filet crochet.

I love how you are passing along your love of sewing to your girls, Sivje!

Thank you for the chance to win this awesome give-away!

Hi, Goosegirl...I've enjoyed knowing you for this short while through the ES forum! Your daughters are sweet, and I love your blog style. Now to the contest:

What great gift was given to me perhaps by my grandmothers or another mentor. My grandmothers were quite old when I was a small child...so to really say they taught me to sew--would not be true...and we didn't give material gifts very much in this huge family. But, they taught me how important it is to take time to sit a spell, with milk and cookies or with a pocketbook sandwich...jelly spread on store bread with oleo on it with a young girl whose mother was quite busy cooking, cleaning, sewing, tending her chickens, on and on and on. I was in 7th heaven!!! But, when my mother passed away, I received two wonderful things that these two grandmothers had made for my Mom...both were quilts that they had made (separately) for my parents...and Mom marked the were for me! I'm the only daughter who sews and quilts. Like I'm the only one who doesn't set the table for company with paper plates--so I got her beautiful set of china! I must have learned something over the table with these two gentle fragile (once very strong) women.

I am a fan on Facebook, and think I'm also connected someway to your blog! I'm not really techie on this stuff. I've a "sorta" blog...it is www.linda-thisnthatintherosegarden.blogspot.com/ I gave my self such a long blog name, that sometimes I forget it! HA-HA... And, of course, it goes without saying that I would love to win your apron that you sew!!! lynnlind@rconnect.com

I'm already a follower (and longtime fan...) and although I don't think I should qualify for this contest (was a tester wannabe)...

I want to tell you about Grandma Barb who is a friend of our families... she was our neighbour who befriended us and my children adore her. She makes special peanutbutter sandwiches and tea parties ... and gives her unconditonal love and amazing knitted gifts.

Grandma Barb just had surgery and her strong faith in God has helped see her through her terrible sickness since December. They have incredible faith and give incredible love and we are so very blessed to have her and her husband Grandpa Ralph in our lives!

Keep up your amazing work Sivje!

Sivje, I do love your blog with or without your contest. I had to think long and hard about who to pick for this post. My grandmother was a wonderful woman, but the one who really mentored me was my husband's mother, my mother-in-law. My husband and I got engaged 24 hours before my mom died with a brain tumor, and my mil just stepped in to love on me in the gap. She was such a great mil, as well as mentoring me in loving my hubby well, feeding my family, and being frugal without being cheap! She encouraged me to enjoy every moment of my family, and I loved that she did this. She's been dead a few years, and I still miss her sorely. Thanks for the chance to share. Now I'm glad I did!

My Granny gave me too many things to list.. some of which was her love, her wisdom, the skills to cook and most of all she gave me a love for the Savior which led to my salvation. My Granny has been gone now for 3 years and I miss her soooo much.

I just found your blog through Ellie Inspired. I love your apron pattern!! My Mom and Dad are always passing their wisdom onto me. They are both so knowledgable. They said their parents weren't very helpful when they were young and they really could have learned a lot from them. So, they choose to pass information onto me on a regular basis so I can hopefully avoid some of the mistakes they made in life.

My grandmother gave me the gift of knowing that not everything in life has to be bought and expensive to be important. She taught me that living simply and doing things the way that most consider the hard way is more times than not better. She taught me that things sewn by hand will last much longer than things from the store. And she gave me the greatest handmade doll quilt ever, that is still in use today by my young children after surviving through 3 girls and is now on the the 2nd of my girls. Thank you grandma, for all of this I am very greatful!

My grandma gave me her pedal-type Singer sewing machine. She left it for me with my name on it. (She didn't have a will, but wrote names on her things to be distributed after her death.) This was truly special for me as so many in our family sew, so it could have gone to any of my many cousins. I cried my eyes out when my aunt told me it was mine. Every summer I used to go to grandma's and she'd hand cut out & sew the most beautiful outfits for my Barbie dolls. I would just sit and watch her in complete awe. No patterns, no books on how to do it, or anything...she would just look at the dolls & then cut & sew. She has been my inspiration for all my sewing. I miss her so much.

To anyone out there who thinks love spells don't work, I’m here to tell you that Lord Zakuza love spell is the best and most powerful. I am a wealthy man who has lots of assets and possessions but I have difficulty with women. Whenever I try to settle down with any, we end up breaking up and I had no idea of why I was going through such an experience in my relationship. It was so worrying that I couldn’t be myself anymore and I started searching for help everywhere even at my place of work. I was going through my work activities online and I came across a testimony of a lady called ( Febe Anouk ) regarding how Lord Zakuza helped her to restore her relationship with his love spell, I had to give it a try and I visited Lord Zakuza and I told him everything I was going through. Lord Zakuza consoled and promised to help me out with my situation by preparing a love spell for me. I followed the instructions given by him to me and within 48 hours, my Ex lover came looking for me and pleaded for forgiveness. Since I came in contact with Lord Zakuza, things have changed for good in my life and right now, I am married with two beautiful kids and my home is blessed. All thanks to Lord Zakuza I am forever thankful to you. WhatsApp him on +1 740-573-9483. Try him and your life will be blessed.
